If you’ve found your way here, chances are we already have something in common.
Maybe you grew up rolling polyhedral dice around a kitchen table. Maybe you stayed up too late reading fantasy novels with a flashlight under the covers. Maybe you can quote Firefly, argue about the best Doctor, or have strong opinions about whether story should come before game mechanics. Or maybe you’re just looking for your next great game, book, movie, or convention adventure.
Whatever brought you here, welcome.
I was born in 1973, and I’ve been a geek for as long as I can remember. I started playing Dungeons & Dragons in the 1980s, back when tabletop gaming wasn’t nearly as mainstream as it is today. In high school I belonged to a Star Trek club—a fact that earned more than a few puzzled looks from classmates. Being a geek wasn’t exactly fashionable.
There was another part of my life that made me feel like an outsider, too. I’m gay, and growing up meant navigating a world where I often felt different for more than one reason. Looking back now, I realize those experiences shaped how I approach community. The gaming table became a place where everyone could tell stories together, where imagination mattered more than fitting in, and where people could simply be themselves. That’s something I still value every time I sit down to play.
These days I’m happiest behind the Game Master’s screen. While I enjoy being a player, I absolutely love creating adventures and watching players surprise me. My favorite campaigns are collaborative ones where the players aren’t just experiencing the story—they’re helping write it. Great games happen when a Game Master discovers what excites the players and weaves those motivations into the world.
My tastes have evolved over the years, but they’ve never really changed at heart. I still love classic roleplaying games, but I’ve developed a deep appreciation for systems that let story shine. Whether it’s the old-school excitement of Dungeon Crawl Classics and Shadowdark, the investigative horror of Call of Cthulhu, the absurdity of Paranoia, the cinematic fun of WEG Star Wars, or the collaborative storytelling of Trophy Gold and Fiasco, I’m always chasing games that create memorable moments around the table.
Outside of RPGs, you’ll also find me talking about board games, card games, science fiction, fantasy, conventions, books, movies, and television. Tolkien sits comfortably beside Terry Pratchett. Douglas Adams shares shelf space with H.P. Lovecraft. One week I might be discussing Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, or Firefly; the next I may be sharing photos and stories from CoastCon, DragonCon, or Gen Con.
This isn’t intended to be a review site or an authority on what’s “best.” There are plenty of places on the internet for rankings and hot takes.
Instead, I want this to be a place for conversations.
I want to share games that deserve more attention. I want to discuss books that left me thinking long after I closed the cover. I want to tell stories from conventions, swap Game Master ideas, celebrate clever game design, laugh about spectacular dice failures, and occasionally wander off into whatever geeky rabbit hole has captured my imagination that week.
Most of all, I hope this becomes a place where fellow gamers, readers, and fans can exchange ideas, discover something new, and maybe leave just a little more excited to create stories of their own.
So grab a cup of coffee, pull up a chair, and join the conversation.
I’m glad you’re here.
